New figures: Largest in Scandinavia

Figures show that Privathospitalet Mølholm performs more ablations for atrial fibrillation than any other hospital in Scandinavia.

In 2023, Privathospitalet Mølholm performed almost 1,100 atrial fibrillation ablations on patients from across Scandinavia.

Around 750,000 people in Denmark, Norway and Sweden have atrial fibrillation. Approximately one in three of us will experience atrial fibrillation at some point in our lives.

Fortunately, most cases can be effectively managed with medication and blood-thinning drugs to prevent blood clots, the most serious complication of atrial fibrillation.

However, some patients either do not experience sufficient relief from medication, are unable to tolerate it, or wish to avoid lifelong medical treatment. In such cases, a specific surgical procedure for atrial fibrillation known as 'ablation' is an option.

It is precisely this procedure that cardiologists have been busy performing in 2023.

Figures show that Privathospitalet Mølholm performs more ablations than any other center in Scandinavia. In 2023, cardiologists performed almost 1,100 ablations for atrial fibrillation. Half of the patients came from Denmark, while the other half came from Norway and Sweden.

The figure shows the number of ablation procedures for atrial fibrillation at Privathospitalet Mølholm and the overall average for the other five Danish public centers, the five Norwegian public centers and the 11 Swedish centers (one private and 10 public).

Patients come from all over Scandinavia

It is not only Danish patients who find their way to Privathospitalet Mølholm in Vejle, says one of the cardiologists at Privathospitalet Mølholm:

"Around half of the patients we see here are Danish. The other half are from Norway and Sweden. This reflects the, unfortunately, long waiting times in our neighboring countries, but also the fact that Privathospitalet Mølholm is actively sought out because of our extensive experience and high quality," says Peter Steen Hansen.
