Examination: Heart Package (Basic and Extended)

We offer two different examinations: the Basic Heart Package and the Extended Heart Package. If you experience chest pain, get out of breath easily or lose your strength quickly when you try to be active, our cardiologists can examine and treat you within a short time.

What you need to know about the heart packages

You may benefit from a heart examination if you experience chest tightness or get out of breath too easily at rest or when doing something.

Only the exercise stress test (bike test) requires preparation: To ensure the test is successful, it is important that:

  • You have not smoked in the last 2 hours before the test
  • You have not eaten a large meal within 2 hours of the test. However, you may have a piece of bread, some fruit, and a cup of tea or coffee
  • You have preferably not taken any nitroglycerine preparations in the two hours before the examination
  • Your footwear and clothing are suitable for cycling

Basic Heart Package

Includes a consultation with a cardiologist, blood pressure measurement, blood tests if necessary, and either echocardiography or an exercise stress test.

Extended Heart Package

The extended heart package includes both echocardiography and an exercise stress test and is otherwise the same as the basic heart package.

In addition, we offer the following supplementary examinations:

  • Holter monitoring, event ECG or R-test
  • 24-hour blood pressure monitoring;
  • CT scan of the heart with calcium scoring.

The examinations are carried out by a cardiologist and a nurse.

A cardiac examination is expected to take approximately 45 minutes in total.

Exercise stress test (bike test)

This test is not effective at determining whether you have arteriosclerosis. It is simply not sensitive enough. If it is relevant to investigate whether you have signs of arteriosclerosis, we would normally recommend a cardiac CT scan with a 'calcification score'.

We primarily use the exercise stress test to assess your fitness level. This may be relevant if your job requires you to be in good physical shape, for example if you are a pilot, licensed racing driver or undertake certain types of offshore work.

The examination begins with a consultation with a cardiologist. You will then cycle on an exercise bike with a gradually increasing resistance. At the same time, an electrocardiogram will be recorded using electrodes placed on your chest.
The examination is carried out with your upper body bare.

To ensure the examination is successful, it is important:

  • You have not smoked in the last 2 hours before the test
  • You have not eaten a large meal within 2 hours of the test. However, you may have a piece of bread, some fruit, and a cup of tea or coffee
  • You have preferably not taken any nitroglycerine preparations in the two hours before the examination
  • Your footwear and clothing are suitable for cycling
