Examination: 24-hour blood pressure monitoring
A 24-hour blood pressure monitoring involves measuring your blood pressure at regular intervals over a 24-hour period. The purpose of the test is to assess whether your blood pressure requires medical treatment. If you are already on treatment, we can also use the results to assess how well the treatment is working. We can examine and treat you within a short time.
What you need to know about 24-hour blood pressure monitoring
24-hour blood pressure monitoring may be beneficial for you if you suspect that your blood pressure is too high or too low. The monitoring allows us to assess whether your blood pressure requires medical treatment.
If you are receiving treatment for your blood pressure, a 24-hour blood pressure monitoring can also be used to assess how effective the treatment is.
The examination does not require any preparation. You may therefore eat, drink and take any medication as usual.
The nurse will attach the blood pressure monitor to your arm – the device is set to take readings more frequently during the day than at night. Whilst wearing the 24-hour blood pressure monitor, it is important that you carry out the same activities as usual, e.g. going to work, cleaning, exercising, etc.
It is important that you keep your arm still and stretch it when the blood pressure monitor is taking a reading.
The examination does not require any preparation. You may therefore eat, drink and take any medication as usual.
You may feel a tightening in your arm when the device pumps air into the cuff, but this is no different from when you have your blood pressure measured in the usual way.
Once the monitoring period is over, you remove the device yourself and hand it in at the reception desk at Privathospitalet Mølholm.
We will analyse the results of the examination, and you will then receive a report from the cardiologist.
