Exercise stress test
An exercise stress test is primarily useful for assessing your fitness level. It may be required when renewing a pilot’s licence, a motorsport licence, or for certain offshore work assignments.
An exercise stress test is not suitable for assessing whether you have signs of arteriosclerosis. In this case, a CT scan of the heart with a calcium score measurement would be far more appropriate.
What you need to know about an exercise stress test
An exercise stress test is a stress test that allows us to examine how your heart responds to strenuous physical exertion whilst you are cycling on an exercise bike.
If you need to renew your pilot’s licence, motorsport licence, or have specific work duties offshore or in the wind turbine industry, it may be necessary to assess your fitness level via an exercise stress test.
The exercise stress test is carried out on an exercise bike with a gradually increasing workload. Whilst you are cycling on the exercise bike, the electrocardiogram is recorded using electrodes placed on your chest.
The test is carried out with your upper body bare, and the expected total duration is approximately half an hour.
