Examination: Echocardiography – an ultrasound scan of the heart
An ultrasound scan of the heart (echocardiography) allows us to assess your heart valves and your heart’s pumping function. This may be relevant if you have symptoms of heart failure: shortness of breath, fluid retention, fatigue and chest pain during physical activity. Our cardiologists are ready to examine and treat you within a short time.
What you need to know about echocardiography
An echocardiogram is an ultrasound scan of the heart that shows the structure of your heart and how its individual parts function.
You may benefit from an echocardiogram if you suspect you have heart failure or other heart condition.
An echocardiogram is performed whilst you are lying on your left side with your upper body bare.
The cardiologist will apply a small amount of gel to the skin around the heart area and uses an ultrasound probe to scan your heart.
The examination is painless and is expected to take approximately half an hour.
